Huawei CEO, Richard Yu, has officially confirmed the Huawei foldable phone during the recent Mate 20 Pro launch.
The handset will not only be foldable but will also be one of the first 5G capable devices commercially available. 5G technology is expected to be 100 times faster than 4G networks, and 50 times more responsive. The mobile device is slated to be released in early 2019.
The deputy chairman of Huawei, Ken Hu, had also described the 5G foldable phone in September at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions at the World Economic Forum, according to Forbes. Hu commented, “In our first 5G smartphone, we are going to introduce a foldable screen. This is the first time to introduce foldable screens on a smartphone.”
He continued, “so let’s imagine, with much faster speed – 100 times faster than today – you’re going to enjoy an amazing high-definition video experience with a big screen on your smartphone.”
Huawei is not the only company working on foldable smartphones with Samsung also set to bring out the Galaxy X in early 2019.
